A year-long Norwegian study published in the June 2004 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (79, 6:1118-1225, 2004) demonstrated that supplementatin with CLA resulted in significantly lower fat body mass. 185 overweight adults were given either 4400 mg. CLA or 4500 mg. placebo (olive) oil daily. Subjects receiving the CLA were fouond to have a mean reduction of Body Fat Mass of 7.8% compared with subjects receiving placebo.

CLA is a mixture of isomers of linoloeic acid. It is usually derived from safflower or sunflower seed oils.
